Runners can look forward to a delicious piece of homemade flapjack when they finish the marathon or relay, courtesy of the East Riding of Yorkshire branch of the Women’s Institute (WI). With more than 2000 runners taking part that’s a lot of flapjack!
Ladies from the WI will be on hand at the KCOM Stadium to hand out the flapjack in person to runners as they leave the stadium. They will also be at changeover stations to give flapjack to relay runners as they finish.
Our connection with the WI stems from one of its members, Eileen Flux, who has been volunteering as a Marathon Maker since our first event in 2015. Eileen will be marshalling in the city centre on Sunday. In 2015 her nephew travelled up from the Isle of Wight to take part in the marathon and this year her daughter will be running.
