The Hull Marathon

THE WINNERS IN OUR ARTWORK COMPETITIONS

Art exhibition flyer 2017

We are delighted to announce the names of the artists and schoolchildren whose work has been selected to feature around the route of the marathon (see below). The artists are all local and living in Hull, the East Riding of Yorkshire and Barton-upon-Humber (DN18), and the children attend schools near the marathon route. The aim of the competitions was to engage with the local community, to provide an opportunity for local artists to showcase their work and to add some culture to the City of Culture edition of the marathon.

A panel of judges, which included Rosie Millard, Chair of 2017 UK City of Culture, selected the best images for the art installations which will feature on the road surface of the marathon route. We believe that our event is the only one in the world to have such a feature.

We teamed up with Active Humber to engage with local educational institutions and children from 20 different schools have had their designs selected for mile markers. Each of the 26 miles along the route has been sponsored by a local company whose logo will also appear on the mile markers.

The winning mile marker designs and the original artwork and photographs used for the art installations can be viewed at a special marathon exhibition which will be held on the weekend of the race. There will also be displays by local running clubs and a new work of art which is being created especially for the marathon by award winning local artist and keen runner, Peter Naylor. Mr Naylor is also the curator of the exhibition which will be held in the Horncastle Building, Hull College, 10 Wincolmlee, Hull HU2 8HZ on marathon weekend only. The opening times are:

5pm – 8pm Friday 22 September

9am – 5pm Saturday 23 September

10am – 5 pm Sunday 24 September

Entry is free and the exhibition is open to the public as well as to runners collecting their race packs.
