We are delighted to announce that Mark Williamson has been officially recognised as the Guiness World Records' fastest marathon dressed as a phone box in a time of 04:06:37 in the 2017 Hull Marathon. This is the first World Record attributed to the Hull Marathon. Mark stated on his social media account “Big, massive thanks to everyone involved, from the design (Fiona Jones, Duncan & Helen Johnson and adapted by Hornsea school & Sam Patterson); sewing centre Hornsea, Hornsea Lions, and Hornsea Harriers! Special thanks to everyone who helped to obtain photographic evidence and I couldn’t have done it without Bradd or Rob, who ran alongside me. So so proud...🍾🏆??🏃👏 ”
Mark, who runs with Hornsea Harriers, also went on to say “It has been a massive team effort to get this record, which started when Hull Marathon Race Director, Lucas Meagor, attenpted the record at the London Marathon in the first version of the phone box. It was adapted ready for Hull 6 months later and without all the help it would not have been possible. Running the marathon now seems the easiest part of the whole record attempt.”
Now the bar is set, the talk of what record to try in 2018 is in discussion and has been suggested at the centipede! To do this would require 50 runners, aiming to run in 5 hours – which would smash the current record of 7 hours 28 minutes and 43 seconds. Who fancies joining this idea?
Many congratulations Mark – you’ve given the city another reason to be proud!
