Learn about Hull 2017
We look forward to welcoming you to Hull, or Kingston upon Hull: UK City of Culture 2017.
Hull was announced the winner of UK City of Culture 2017 in 2013. The award is given every four years to a city that demonstrates the belief in the transformational power of culture. Hull 2017 will deliver 365 days of transformative cultural activity in 2017.
The arts and cultural programme for the year celebrates the unique character of the city, its people, history and geography. The programme runs from 1 Jan to 31 Dec and is split into four seasons, each with something distinctive and intriguing to say, and each created to challenge and thrill. The Marathon is in season 3, "Freedom" but will be looking to offer its own cultural angle, to be announced in spring 2017.
The 2017 team are working with the artists of Hull to celebrate the culture of the city and its place in the wider cultural offer of the North - making Hull a cultural destination for must-see events. Young people are at the heart of the programme and will be given the opportunity to participate in 2017 as well as thousands of volunteers who will help deliver the year. This includes many of our own Marathon Makers and Delivery Team.
